Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

  • Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
  • Meet your private guide and transfer to your lodge in Arusha.
  • Orientation briefing about the safari itinerary.
  • Overnight in Arusha.
Optional: Evening bird walk in the lodge vicinity.

Day 2: Birding in Arusha National Park

  • Morning birding in Arusha National Park.
  • Possible sightings: Eastern double-collared sunbird, Olive-headed weaver, Hartlaub’s turaco, and more.
  • Afternoon game drive for wildlife spotting: giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and monkeys.
  • Overnight at Arusha lodge.

Day 3: Birding in Lark Plains & Tarangire National Park

  • Early morning departure to the scenic Lark Plains for birding.
  • Proceed to Tarangire National Park for afternoon birding and game drive.
  • Tarangire highlights: large herds of elephants, baobab trees, and diverse bird species like Rüppell’s griffon vulture and lilac-breasted roller.
  • Overnight in Tarangire.

Day 4: Full Day Birding in Tarangire National Park

  • Full day dedicated to birding and wildlife exploration.
  • Target species: Madagascar bee-eater, African fish eagle, and endemic Tarangire species.
  • Afternoon game drive with opportunities to spot lions, cheetahs, and giraffes.
  • Overnight in Tarangire.

Day 5: Transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

  • Depart Tarangire to Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
  • Optional short birding en route.
  • Afternoon visit to a nearby crater rim for scenic views and birding.
  • Overnight near Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 6: Birding in Serengeti National Park

  • Early morning drive to Serengeti National Park.
  • Full day game drive and birding in the Serengeti plains.
  • Target species: Serengeti White-bearded Wildebeest, Ostrich, Secretary Bird, and Martial Eagle.
  • Overnight in Serengeti lodge or tented camp.

Day 7: Continued Birding in Serengeti & Lake Victoria

  • Morning birding in Serengeti National Park.
  • Transfer to Lake Victoria, Mwanza area, for afternoon birding.
  • Target species around Lake Victoria: Papyrus Gonolek, African Jacana, and Malachite Kingfisher.
  • Overnight in Mwanza or nearby lodge.

Day 8: Pemba Island Birding

  • Optional: Flight to Pemba Island for endemic bird species.
  • Explore forests and coastal areas for unique species such as Pemba Sunbird and Pemba Scops Owl.
  • Return to Arusha or stay overnight on Pemba (depending on logistics).

Day 9: Departure

  • Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight.
  • End of the safari.
